POWER
MAINTENANCE GROUP:
ENERFAB Completes Outage On-Time and
Under Budget
at Midwest Utility Plant
ENERFAB has successfully completed a major outage project in the Fall
of 2003.
The 500 mega-watt coal-fired boiler maintenance included the
replacement of one rear wall panel, four right-hand side wall panels,
four left-hand side wall panels, and six cyclone re-entry panels.
The planning function was initiated with the Utility as early as
November of 2002. Regularly scheduled meet-
ings prior to the outage worked out the numerous details of the
project including specific project workflow assignments in conjunction
with the entire associated plant work. Additional issues resolved
during the planning phase included manpower and rigging requirements
and budgets.
The actual outage lasted seven weeks and utilized up to 95 workers per
shift with two,10 hour shifts per day. Manpower cost savings were
achieved by reducing the total premium time required. On-going status
meetings held during the outage and the on-site presence of ENERFAB
quality control personnel were instrumental in insuring that critical
path deadlines were met. Through ENERFAB ingenuity, a cost savings of
$85,000 was realized due to the employment of a unique monorail system
to off-load the panels. |

As part of ENERFAB’s commitment to safety,
two full-time safety supervisors were on-site throughout the project.
The utility conducted a safety
comprehensive audit during the outage and the ENERFAB team achieved an
impressive score of 89.
Working with ENERFAB on your
power maintenance project, you can expect the same high level of
quality, efficiency, and safety standards.
