ENERFAB Clean Air Technologies Group recently completed an on-site cleaning of catalyst for Southern Company’s Bowen plant.

When excessive popcorn ash rendered the Southern Company’s catalyst unusable, they turned to ENERFAB  for a solution. ENERFAB offered a unique solution. Under an exclusive North American licensing agreement with Envirgy to utilize their patented technology, and employing Enerfab patent pending technology, ENERFAB initiated a comprehensive, turnkey on-site cleaning project.

The presence of popcorn ash can clog the catalyst which in turn contributes to the build up of fly ash significantly reducing flow path and overall efficiency.

The popcorn ash pluggage was so severe that more than 80% of the honeycomb cells were plugged, rendering the first layer of catalyst virtually unusable. ENERFAB successfully removed 95% of the popcorn ash without degradation of the catalyst properties.

Performing the cleaning operation on-site yielded project efficiencies resulting in cost savings across the entire scope of work. ENERFAB executed two individual contracts (cleaning and removal and instal-lation), but performed the work as one seamless operation.

Back-end analysis performed by both the Southern Company and the catalyst supplier, resulted in an average 95% clean rating.
